Training

Welcome to the description of our woodworking training classes. When you join our Guild,  you'll have the opportunity to learn essential skills, whether you're a beginner or looking to refine your craft. Our experienced instructors are dedicated to providing hands-on guidance and support. Join us to unlock your potential and create beautiful woodworking projects!

The following sections will describe the different types of training being offered by the Guild.  Clicking on the titles below will lead to descriptions of the subject.

Basic Orientation & Safety

This short, one session class is a required class for all new members.  It will provide basic information on Guild organization, shop hours, safety rules, Special Interest Groups, and training.

Members wishing to use the woodworking machinery in our shop will need to complete Our Cluster Training series of classes.

Once you are a member of the guild you may start to attend some of the courses under Advanced Training, these are typically of an introductory nature, or certain courses only require Tech Sig membership.  All classes that require the use of shop woodworking equipment will have a minimal base requirement to complete your cluster training.  Some classes may require a waiting period or other prerequisites for attendance.  Advanced training will open up a world of different project types and can lead to certification on several additional machines in our shop such as the lathes and Picture Frame Underpinner.

See this Guide for instructions on signing up for a Advanced Training Course.

Advanced Training class preparatory materials can be found here: Preparatory Information

Certain classes such as the Lathe classes and those provided by the TechSIG have a specific order you need to follow.  Click here to learn more about these before you sign up to the classes.

Refresher Training

Additional training to refresh any skills you feel that you may need to improve is offered by the Guild.  If desired, you can come in and refresh on just the tablesaws, or the routers.  Be on the lookout for training notices that are issued by the Guild.

The Guild promotes the interest of members with Special Interests in Woodworking and Model Making.  To that end, our current SIGs are: Carvers, Model Railroading, Technology, WoodChicks, and Woodturners.

Some of these SIGs will provide additional training over and above the training listed above.
